August

Aljubarrota is a small village but has played a central role in Portuguese history early on the 14th century, when, on August 14th 1385, took place the Battle of Aljubarrota, one of the major military victories of the portuguese army.

The conflict was between Portuguese army led by D. Nuno Álvares Pereira and the future King D. João I (1385-1433), against the spanish army led by D. Juan I of Castile, resulting this victory in the maintenance of the Portuguese sovereignty over Portugal’s territory.

To celebrate this huge and important victory, but also to celebrate Aljubarrota’s legacy and inheritance, this Alcobaça parish promote every year a program that focus on recreating the ambiance from the 14th century in Aljubarrota.
